    About Fukuoka

Fukuoka: Kyushu's Gateway of Street Food and Retro Ports

Fukuoka, centered on Kyushu's largest city, is known across Japan for its food, from Hakata ramen to the lively yatai street stalls. Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine and the retro port district of Mojiko in Kitakyushu make popular side trips, and Fukuoka Airport sits remarkably close to downtown, making the prefecture an easy gateway to Kyushu from across Asia.

In Fukuoka City, Halal Gourmet Japan features an Indian restaurant that describes all of its ingredients as halal and serves both Indian curries and Egyptian kebabs, with a prayer space inside and branches on Kyushu University campuses. Other listings include a sushi restaurant that describes its popular Hakata-style ramen lunch set as reworked to be Muslim-friendly, a Pakistani restaurant recreating the flavors of Karachi with freshly ground original garam masala and a prayer space, and a Muslim-owned Turkish kebab shop registered as certified halal.

In the Mojiko area of Kitakyushu, one shop describes its baked curry — a local specialty — as developed to be both vegan-friendly and halal-friendly, while another restaurant describes its baked curry as made with certified halal duck. A long-established Japanese confectionery in Kitakyushu sells traditional sweets it describes as suitable for Muslim customers, and a cafe in Yukuhashi serves a plate it describes as halal-certified chicken meatballs with homemade waffles.

For prayer, the listings include Fukuoka Masjid with qibla direction and wudu facilities, a prayer space at Fukuoka Airport also equipped with qibla direction and wudu, the Fukuoka International Association, and hotel prayer spaces at New Otani Hakata and Hotel New Tagawa.

Graze your way through Hakata, visit Dazaifu, and stroll the retro streets of Mojiko. Use the Halal Gourmet Japan map to find restaurants, mosques and prayer spaces along your route, and plan a Fukuoka trip that includes both meals and prayer.
