A Strait and a Limestone Plateau at the Western Edge of Honshu
Yamaguchi sits at the western end of Honshu, separated from Kyushu by the Kanmon Strait. Its landmarks are spread far apart and differ sharply from one another: the arched Kintaikyo Bridge, the wide limestone plateau of Akiyoshidai, and Hagi, which still shows the layout of a castle town.
Surrounded by sea on three sides, the area has long been known as a hub for shipping and trade. Open coastal roads make driving itself part of the experience.
