Chiba: From Narita Arrivals to Tokyo Disney Resort
For many travelers, Japan begins in Chiba. Narita International Airport, Tokyo Disney Resort in Maihama and the Makuhari convention district all sit in this prefecture east of Tokyo, with the coastline of the Boso Peninsula beyond — so your first meal, and your first prayer, in Japan often happen here.
Inside Narita Airport's terminals, Halal Gourmet Japan features udon and soba restaurants registered as certified halal, and a Japanese curry restaurant that describes its kitchen as halal-certified — convenient before or after a flight. In Makuhari, the listings include a sushi restaurant with a prayer space serving what it describes as halal and vegetarian sushi from 100 yen per piece, and a Cantonese-based Chinese restaurant inside a hotel, registered as certified halal. At Ikspiari in Maihama, next to Tokyo Disney Resort, a seafood restaurant is also listed.
Farther afield, a Japanese restaurant inside Shisui Premium Outlets describes itself as halal-certified, building its dashi on Chiba-grown katsuobushi and locally prized Tako-mai rice. In Kisarazu, a restaurant founded in 1897 serves Tokyo Bay seafood and Boso vegetables with Edo-style technique and has a prayer space. The listings also include a Muslim-owned Malaysian restaurant that describes its food as 100% halal, and a modern Indian restaurant led by a former five-star hotel chef.
Prayer facilities are one of Chiba's strengths. Narita Airport has prayer rooms in every terminal, both before and after security, with qibla direction and wudu facilities. Quiet Rooms are listed at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, along with prayer spaces at IKEA Tokyo Bay, AEON Mall Makuhari-Shintoshin, Shisui Premium Outlets and Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu, and mosques such as Masjid Nishi-Chiba (Chiba Islamic Cultural Center), Hira Masjid Gyotoku and Bilal Mosque Kisarazu.
Pray on arrival at the airport, spend a day at the parks in Maihama, and try the seafood of the Boso Peninsula. Use the Halal Gourmet Japan map to find restaurants, mosques and prayer spaces along your route, and start your Japan trip in Chiba with both meals and prayer covered.
