When you get hungry while traveling, you want to find a halal-friendly place close to where you are. But searching “halal food near me” in a map app does not always tell you what halal arrangements a restaurant actually has.
This guide shows how to find restaurants near you on Halal Gourmet Japan. It covers searching from where you are, narrowing the results by feature, checking a listing page, and using our area guides when you already know where you are going.
What you can find on Halal Gourmet Japan
Halal Gourmet Japan lists more than 1,110 halal and Muslim-friendly restaurants and shops, and more than 310 mosques and prayer spaces (as of October 30, 2026). Each restaurant has its own listing page that shows its halal arrangements, such as whether it has halal certification or is pork-free.
Search near where you are
On the Halal Gourmet Japan homepage, choose “Near current location” in the location field and search. The results start with the places closest to you. If your browser asks to use your location, allow it. You can also see the results on a map.
Narrow down by feature
Open “More filters” in the search box to narrow the results by type of food and by the restaurant’s halal arrangements. There are 10 features:
- Certification and ownership: Halal Certified, Muslim-Owned
- Food: Serves Halal Meat, Halal Options, Pork-Free, No Alcoholic Drinks, Vegetarian Options
- Kitchen and facilities: Uses Halal Seasoning, Dedicated Halal Kitchen & Tableware, Prayer Space
Which features matter most differs from person to person, so choose the ones that match your own standards. You can also tap a feature name above to see a list of restaurants with that feature.
In the same “More filters” panel, you can switch the search from restaurants to prayer spaces to find mosques and prayer spaces nearby. You can also show only restaurants that offer discounts or free extras.
What to check on a listing page
Once you find a place you want to try, open its listing page. The “Conditions” section lists the restaurant’s halal arrangements. Tap “Directions” to check the route in Google Maps or Apple Maps.
Further down the page, “Nearby Prayer Spaces & Mosques” shows mosques and prayer spaces near the restaurant. If a restaurant catches your eye, tap “Bookmark” or “Check in” to save it to your list.

If you already know where you are going
When you are planning a trip, our area guides bring together restaurants in each area.
- Hokkaido: Hokkaido
- Kanto: Tokyo, Narita and Haneda Airports
- Chubu: Kanazawa, Around Mount Fuji, Nagoya
- Kansai: Osaka and Kyoto, Kobe, Nara
- Chugoku: Hiroshima
- Kyushu and Okinawa: Fukuoka, Okinawa
For areas without a guide, go to “Search Halal Restaurants by Area” near the bottom of the homepage and open the list for the prefecture you need.
To find a mosque or prayer space for before or after your meal, see this guide too.
Before you go
Information on our listings may change at the restaurant’s discretion. Please check opening hours, menus and arrangements on the linked pages and with the restaurant on site.
Each listing page describes the restaurant’s halal arrangements (certification, ingredients, kitchen, and so on). Please read the listing and decide whether it meets your own standards. If you want to let staff know that you avoid pork and alcohol, you can show them our note in Japanese.
To wrap up
Save the Halal Gourmet Japan homepage to your browser bookmarks during your stay, and you can quickly find restaurants nearby wherever you go. If a place you often visit is not listed, let us know through “Request a restaurant” on the search results page. It helps the next person looking for a place to eat.
